About US

From humble beginnings (a tarp that sheltered the first fire truck) to a three-bay station and separate administration building…

In 1942 Boronia Fire Brigade was registered with the Country Fire Authority (CFA). Seven of its twenty members were residents of Bayswater and although officially Boronia firefighters, were known as the Bayswater Fire Brigade.

A Fire Station was established in Station Street, Bayswater and the Brigade continued to operate as an out station of Boronia Fire Brigade until the early 1950’s when it was disbanded for unknown reasons.Boronia Fire Brigade now provided fire protection to both Boronia and Bayswater areas.

In June 1969 a public meeting was convened to gather support for the establishment of a fire brigade in Bayswater. There was no dispute as to the need for local fire protection; however there was much discussion as to whether it should be provided by the CFA or Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB). A second public meeting held on 25th June 1969 formed Bayswater Fire Brigade.

On 17th November 1969 Bayswater Fire Brigade was registered with CFA. The Brigade became operational in January 1970 and attended its first fire call on 22nd January (picture). However, a site for the Fire Station had not yet been established so the Brigade vehicle was parked under a tarp at the rear of a service station on the corner of Mountain Highway and Highmoor Avenue, Bayswater. On Good Friday 1970 a tin shed was erected to house the Brigade vehicle and other operational equipment.

In 1973 the tin shed was relocated to a site adjacent to the Scoresby Road railway crossing until the present Fire Station was built in 1976.

In 2008, the Brigade leased an additional building on the same site to be used for administration, meetings and indoor training.

  2. Hi Michael,
Thanks for your message, Volunteering is a great thing to be involved in but unfortunately we are Bayswater in Victoria.

Good luck with getting into your local Fire station and hope it’s a good fit for you.

  3. Hi, do you do a Santa run on Christmas Eve and if so do you go around the Canterbury Gardens estate between Dorset rd, Colchester rd & Canterbury rd? Thanks

  4. Hi Jacqui thanks for your question. We unfortunately don’t do the street Santa runs anymore as we found it was unsustainable given or operational requirements.
We unfortunately have completed all santa activities for this year, Australia day will be our next community event held at Bunnings Bayswater on Saturday 23rd of January.

  5. Hi Bayswater CFA
We are a local not for profit centre in Ringwood East. Our major fund raising activity for 2016 is a “Touch a Truck” to be held on Sunday 16th October 2016.
This event will include: market stalls, free children’s events, trucks/vehicles for the children to climb, honk horns and just marvel at.
We would greatly appreciate your assistance in being able to make this event a success by donating your time and a vehicle/truck for the children to look at, touch, take photos, sit in or just honk the horn. We are looking for local community organisations and business to be involved which can also be used as a great way of marketing your community organisation.

  6. Thank you for your enquiry, I would like to get some more information from you so we can provide the most appropriate service for your event.
We would like the opportunity to have a stall as well as provide a truck so we can give the community some Fire Safety messages as well.
Please send me some information and your contact details to lt2@bayswatercfa.com and I will put together something to see if we can attend your day.
    Thanks
